Our Bands

Beginner Band - 6th Grade

The Beginner Band at Cario is our 6th grade band. This ensemble is comprised of students in their first year of playing an instrument. The Beginner Band meets during school, 5 days each week, for a period of 45 minutes. The Beginner Band only rehearses before or after school in the weeks immediately preceding a performance. Typically, the Beginner Band performs at each of our 3 in-house concerts; winter, spring, and end-of-year. The Beginner Band also competes each May at the Carowinds Music Festival in Charlotte, NC, where they have received superior ratings the last 5 years. Occasionally, a Beginner Band student is strong enough to qualify for the Concert Band or the Symphonic Band. In these instances, the student plays with both the Beginner Band and the more advanced band, either Concert or Symphonic, whichever one applies. See additional information for Concert Band or Symphonic Band, including uniform requirements.

All Beginner Band students are issued a Cario Bands polo shirt in the fall. Cario band students are required to dress in full uniform for each performance. They are also required to have class materials in addition to either renting or owning their assigned instruments.
