Proposed Fundraising for 2008-2009
The Cario Band Boosters support the band in a variety of ways, the most obvious of which is through fundraising, which is at the very heart of why the Band Boosters exist! We fundraise every year with the following goals and objectives:
- To offset the additional costs, over and above the band fees, of processing each student through the band program. This allows us to keep the band fees at a level similar to other area middle school band programs.
- To provide a vehicle for families to fund their students' band accounts to assist in paying for band fees, event fees, band trips, and other qualifying band events.
- To raise money for the band so that we may continue to provide our students with the instruments and equipment that are needed to ensure the excellence of our band program.
It costs approximately $175 to fund one student in the band program for one school year to meet normal program expenses (music, supplemental instruction, t-shirts and polo shirts, registration fees). The $175 barely even begins to address the issue of instrument and equipment needs! Over and above staffing, Charleston County does not fund our band program -- WE DO! This is why fundraising is so critical to the mission of the Band Boosters and the success of the band program. And guess what? It doesn't have to be hard! This year, we offer many options for band families to participate in our fundraising efforts. The following is a list of our proposed events for this school year:
Fundraising for Student Account Credit:
- Gourmet Pie Program
- Fall Citrus Fruits from River Brite Indian River Citrus
- Coupon Book from Enjoy the City
- Spring Flowers and Hanging Baskets from Fowler's Nursery and Greenhouses
Fundraising for Band Operations:
- "Cario Bands Together for Kids" Sponsorship campaign
- Box Tops 4 Education from General Mills
- Gourmet Lollipops from The Goodies Factory
- Concert CDs from the Cario Bands Program
- Boost the Band from the Cario Band Boosters
- Business Sponsors in Concert with the Cario Bands
Not all of the above fundraising events will appeal to everyone, but there's such a good variety that you can pick and choose! If you eat out a lot and like a good deal, buy an "Enjoy the City" coupon book and stick it in the car. Family coming for Thanksgiving or Christmas? Holiday pies & seasonal fruit! Brighten up the yard or front porch with Spring Flowers and Hanging Baskets! Buy a few CDs and share your child's music concerts with friends and relatives or tuck them away for birthdays, holidays, etc. Shift into multi-purpose mode and think "how can I support the band?" And remember, kids who participate in band tend to thrive in other areas as well. As parents of middle schoolers, we have the ultimate incentive... band is a healthy, disciplined, exciting, and rewarding experience for our children!
"Students who participate in school band or orchestra have the lowest levels of current and lifelong use of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drugs among any group in our society."
