Announcements for the Week Ending August 25th, 2005
Welcome Back!
If your house is anything like ours, it's already been a crazy week but hopefully everyone is ready to get back and make this a great year! We've got a great program, a great crop of musicians, and a great director so let's make music!
Band Night
The first "all-hands" band booster meeting will be August 31 at 7 p.m. in the gym. Mark your calendars now -- band fees can be paid that night, forms can be turned in (we will have notaries on hand to notarize your child's medical form), binder bundles will be distributed, budget approval, volunteer sign-ups, and fundraising updates....lots going on! More details will be posted next week but get it on your calendar!
Any Notaries Out There?
Mary Saady, a 7th grade parent, has volunteered to notarize medical forms on Band Night but we've got 281 forms to collect so if there are more notaries in the band family that would be willing to help at the Forms table on Tuesday, please contact Gwen Stanton or Nan Jenkins (president@cariobands.org) and let us know. Thanks!
Address for Cario Band Boosters
We have an address separate from the school so we can pick up mail on Saturdays and school holidays. You can mail payments to this address if you don't want to send them to school with your child. The new address is:
Cario Band Boosters
1121-B Park West Blvd., Box 224
Mt. Pleasant SC 29466
First Day for Instruments
The first day for 7th and 8th graders to bring instruments will be Thursday or Friday of this week \0xF1 do not bring them the first day of school. Mr. Scott will make the announcement in class so keep those ears open! Sixth graders will not bring instruments until Tuesday, September 5th.
Instrument Rentals
If you know that you will be renting a school-owned instrument this year, please print the 'Instrument Rental Agreement' from the website under Forms, complete it and send it with your child so Mr. Scott can start assigning those instruments.
Volunteers Needed!
We have three volunteer needs -- two coming up before we know it and one that will be ongoing but, with enough participation, only once a month.
- First need on the list is for volunteers to help out in the classroom on August 31st during the Address Party. We need at least 3 parents per class (there are 5 periods) to help out with passing out letters/envelopes, candy bags, collecting letters and envelopes at the end of class, and general oversight during the class period. If you can spare an hour or even more, contact fundraising@cariobands.org and Tara Hyatt will get in touch with you.
- Our second pressing need is for 6th grade mini-camps on the 5th and 6th of September between 5:45 and 8 PM. We need 4 parents each night to direct students to the proper area for their instrument, float between practice areas to check with clinicians for any needs they may have, and to provide hall monitoring during the evening. Contact president@cariobands.org to volunteer for either or both!!! of these nights.
- Last, but not least, we are trying to set up teams of classroom volunteers to work Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week in the band room for the rest of the year. Generally, the Monday team will organize SmartMusic charts from the week before. The Wednesday team will do general data entry and the Friday team will finish up any data entry the Wed. team was unable to complete and copy music that Mr. Scott needs for class. We are looking for 4 volunteers for each of the days so that each 'day' volunteer would only have to work once a month. If you can volunteer a couple of hours on one of these days, please contact Karen Seidman at secretary@cariobands.org and let her know the day you would like to volunteer.
Thanks for considering these requests and we hope to see you around!
Class Materials
Required class materials can be found on the website under About Our Program in the 'Our Bands' section. A list of local music stores that carry the materials can be found on the website under Handbook and Parent Information. Most should have them in stock....however, it's always a good bet to call ahead and make sure they haven't run out.
If you want to save yourself the hassle of driving to the stores, we are offering a "binder bundle" this year that will include the 1" black binder, 10 sheet protectors, 2 pencils, and the required books for your child's grade and instrument \0xF1 bundles will hopefully be delivered at Band Night on August 31. The order form is included in your handbook packet that you picked up at Fact & Fee nights or that should come home with your student Wednesday or Thursday. Forms with checks made out to "Cario Band Boosters" should be returned to the band room lockbox in Mr. Scott's office by Friday, August 25 so we can get the books ordered in time for Band Night.
Lollipop Sales
Our first lollipop sales of the year will be this Thursday, August 24th and Friday, August 25th in the cafeteria during lunch periods. Don't forget to send your student with $1 to buy a lollipop and support the band.....we know they've missed those delicious gourmet pops over the summer!
If you can volunteer an hour or so of your time at the lollipop table either of these days during your child's lunch period, please contact the "Lollipop Guild" (as we like to call them) at lollipops@cariobands.org and let them know when you can help. Thanks!
Band Handbook On-line
The 2006-2007 Cario Band Handbook is now available on the website.....complete with bookmarks for easy navigation and links to more information on certain sections. Check it out by clicking on the Handbook and Parent Information button on the left menu on the opening page.
