Announcements for the week of September 10, 2007

Beach Sweep

In honor of our dear friend and former Band Booster President, Nan Jenkins, we are going to participate in a beach sweep this weekend. Those who knew Nan know about her passion for a clean environment. This Saturday, September 15th, at 9:00 am, any band student/family can join in on the beach sweep. We will be meeting at the old Pitt Street Bridge (at the end of Pitt Street in old Mount Pleasant) and will be continuing until the area is cleaned (or noon - whichever comes first). Because we are participating with an area-wide clean-up, all of the supplies needed will be provided. Participants are asked to wear old tennis shoes (no flip-flops), and bring bug spray, sunscreen, gloves, and a water bottle. The coordinator of the project would like to have an idea of headcount, so if this is something you plan to participate in, please let me know at president@cariobands.org.

Due to limited parking, carpooling is suggested. If there are enough people interested in carpooling, we could meet at the school around 8:30 and go from there.

This community service project is voluntary and not included in the three projects that the band will be doing for the letter writing. This project is simply in honor of Nan, to remember her great service to the community and especially to remember her years of endless work for the band. For those who don't know, Nan was instrumental in making the band booster program what it is today. She served for several years in various board positions, the latest being for two years as Co-President, even after her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Sixth Grade Uniforms

Sixth Graders will need to purchase black pants from Stagecoach. Stagecoach is a clothing store located in the shopping center off of the Isle of Palms Connector between Target and Piggly Wiggle. It is possible that they will have the pants in stock, but may not and have to order them. Please plan to take your child to Stagecoach for a fitting and purchase. The managers, Keith or Bill, are aware of what our band needs, so you only need to mention Cario when you go in and they will take care of you. The deadline for ordering is September 30th and the cost is around $18.

Seventh/Eighth Grade Uniforms

The tux/dress payments for seventh graders (and new 8th graders) are due now. The cost of the dress is $55.00 and the tux is $79.00. Please send in a check with your child payable to Cario Band Boosters. Volunteers will be in the band room on Tuesday (Sep 11th) all day to do fittings. If you have any questions, please write to uniforms@cariobands.org

Lollipops

Lollipops will be sold this Thursday and Friday, September 13th and 14th, during all lunch periods.

Forms

There are still a lot of forms that have not yet been turned in. Also, I have received a lot of medical forms that have not been notarized. I do not have any way to get forms notarized, so if your form is not complete, you will be notified and will need to send in one that is notarized. All of the required forms are on the website. Banks will typically notarize a form free of charge for their customers.

Have a great week!
