Announcements For the Week of October 15, 2007

8th Grade Night

The 8th graders from Cario, along with the 8th graders from Laing and Moultri, will be performing with the Wando marching band this Friday at the Wando football game. There is a practice night on Thursday. The 8th graders should report to the Wando band room at 5:15. Practice will go until approximately 6:30. Call time for Friday evening is 6 pm at the Moultrie MS band room (old Wando). 8th graders should wear their black Cario t-shirt and blue jeans. All of the other Cario band members are encouraged to come out and support the 8th graders and the Wando band. Parents - if you haven't already seen the Wando band perform - you are in for a treat. For those students who did not go to the Low Country Invitational, this is your opportunity to get a concert evaluation.

Uniforms

The tuxes and dresses are being passed out this week. Watch for your child to bring home the dress or tux and please double check that it fits so that any changes that need to be made can be made right away. The band does not have a seamstress at this point so any alterations will need to be arranged on your own. If anyone can recommend a seamstress - please write to uniforms@cariobands.org.

Pies/Fruit Fundraiser

This popular fall fundraiser will begin next Monday. Packets will be distributed during class on Monday, October 22nd. A percentage of the profits are applied to your students band account to be used for fees and trips.

SmartMusic

Due to internet connection difficulties in the band room, SmartMusic pass-offs will not begin until the next quarter. If you would like to practice with SmartMusic, the bands code this year is "cariobands1".

Practice Charts

By now you should be signing practice charts on a weekly basis for your child. This is an important part of their grade. Mr. Scott requires that they be turned in weekly as opposed to sending them in for a few weeks at one time. If you have not been signing practice charts, this is a great time to talk with your child about the required home practices. The 6th grade students have been doing their music pass-offs in class. The 7th graders have been working on scales and should know 5 of the 7 scales as well as the chromatic scale. 8th graders are working on concert music as well as scales.

Concert Update

The concert and general booster meeting originally planned for October 30th has been changed to November 13th. The 8th grade band and jazz band will be performing.

Coat Drive

The first community service project of the year will be the coat drive - which will begin on October 29th and run through November 26th. This is a great opportunity to clean out your coat closet and donate your clean coats and sweaters to a great cause. Watch for more details to come.

Florida trip

The Florida trip is currently being planned and information on that will be going home soon. Down payments will not be due until mid-November. Please watch for more details.

Concert Opportunity

There are two concert opportunities coming up that will count for credit towards Honor Band/Honor Medal.

Wow - it's starting to get busy again so please watch out for your weekly e-mails and feel free to write with any questions.
