Announcements For the Week of January 28, 2008

Fundraising

The spring fundraiser is well underway! Orders are due next Tuesday, February 5th - so be sure to keep selling. This is the last opportunity to fundraise for your child's account. Additional order forms for the flowers are available on the band website. There is also a list available of the Mount Pleasant coupons in the coupon book. The value of the Mount Pleasant coupons alone is over $800. This list could aid in selling the coupon books to those friends and neighbors who don't prefer to venture out of Mount Pleasant. Suffice it to say that the $20 purchase price can be easily recovered with just a coupon or two.

While there are prizes awarded by the band to the top sellers of the flowers, the coupon book company offers tremendous incentives for selling the coupon books.

For instance,
5 books sold = $37.50 toward your student account + one free book (worth $20) = $57.50 in incentives
10 books sold = $75.00 (student account) + two free books (worth $40) + $10 gift card = $125.00 in incentives
15 books sold = $112.50 (student account) + three free books (worth $60) + $10 gift card = $182.50 in incentives
20 books sold = $150.00 (student account) + four free books (worth $80) + $25 gift card =$255 in incentives

Please remember that the coupon book issued to your child needs to be returned in good condition or purchased by February 5th.

Upcoming Symphonic Schedule

Band Aide Extravaganza

Band Aide is a fundraiser to support the Wando Bands. All of the proceeds from the event support the general operating account to purchase instruments or other big items needed.

This year the third annual Band Aide Extravaganza is Friday, February 8, 2008 at the SC National Guard Armory on Mathis Ferry Road starting 6:30 pm. They will offer live and silent auctions, raffles, door prizes, dinner and entertainment. It is an “adult only” event. Dinner is being catered by BAGLEY, CREECH and FRIENDS. Col. Joe Exum will again call the auction. Entertainment provided by an excellent DJ.

See the Wando Band website for additional information including some of the many items that will be available. Last year there was an “island get-a way”, golf packages, shopping excursions, jewelry and much more! The cost is $30 per adult, or $50 per couple. Tickets will be available to purchase at the concert on Saturday as well as a display of some of the silent auction items (see below).

Concert Opportunities

  1. The Wando Symphonic and Concert Bands will be performing Saturday, February 2nd, at 7:30pm.
  2. Also, this Sunday, February 3rd, at 3 pm Southcoast Symphony's "Opera Without Words III" will be performed at the Cathedral of St. Luke & St. Paul, 126 Coming St., downtown Charleston.  The cost is Free.   The conductor is Manny Alvares, who was the clinician for the Senior County band at Wando.

Community Service Project

The next community service will be officially beginning next Monday. We will be supporting the Lowcountry's Needy Babies....by "Showing Some Love" timed perfectly with Valentine's Day. Details will be forthcoming, but specific needs include diapers, wipes, pacifiers, formula, onesies, bottles - so feel free to throw one of these items into your cart when you are out shopping this weekend.

Website

As some of you may be aware, there have some recent communication breakdowns regarding band schedules. As band booster president it is my goal to provide the most up-to-date information in a timely manner. Having said that, sometimes I am not made aware of last minute changes by the band directors. Mr. Scott has assured me that he will do his best to improve timely sharing of information with me so that I can share the information with you.

Have a great rest of the week and weekend!
