Announcements For the Week of November 13, 2008

Cario Concert Update

The Jazz band and the Percussion ensemble concert will be held next Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 7:00pm in the Cario Gym. Performing students are required to wear their new jazz band polos, khaki pants, black socks, black shoes, and black belts. Mr. Scott says " If you are not in uniform, you will not play. If you do not play, that is equal to an unexcused absence during a performance". Please refer to page 8 under "Concert Attire" and page 10 under "Grading System" for more details. Please double check your child so that he or she is in full dress uniform, even if the shirts are a bit to big or even a lot to big, we are working on a way to correct any size issues.

Uniform Update

Following is an update for Uniforms:   6th grade band students will be receiving their polos and pants in class on Friday November 14, 2008.  If your child does not bring home a pair of pants and you do not already have a pair, then you must go to Stagecoach Clothing Store to purchase a pair.  Availability is limited as the pants were special ordered and Stagecoach does not routinely keep these in stock. The Uniform Chairperson also has a limited number of pants that can be purchased.  Please contact Mary Dinda at uniforms@cariobands.org to see if she has your child's size.   Do not remove tags until the clothing has been tried on.  The shirts may be a bit large, but you can expect some shrinkage after washing and drying. You may need to hem the pants. Any problems with the pants should be addressed with Stagecoach.  Contact uniforms@cariobands.org with questions about the polos.   Students must be in proper uniform to perform.  The 6th grade uniform includes the black polo, black uniform pants, black shoes (no sneakers), black socks and a black belt.

Concert Opportunity

A concert opportunity is coming up this Thursday, November 20th. The Wando High School Band (fresh from their fourth 5A State Marching Band win!) will be performing their Winter Concert at the Wando Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. This is a great way to get one of the required 2 outside concerts/semester done.

BoxTops and Campbell's Labels

Lets hear it for Mrs. Barbara Orrell-Jones!!! She is our most awesome"Boxtop Mom". She has been coordinating this effort and has done a fabulous job for the band. The BoxTops have been streaming in so thank you. We have joined with the PTSA and will also be collecting Campbell's labels -- PTSA will be getting all the Campbell's labels and in exchange, we will get all the BoxTops the school collects -- a win-win for both of us! So send in your Campbells' labels too! Remember this is free money for the band.

Practice Makes Perfect!

Mr. Scott has amended the 6th grader weekly practice time requirements. Originally, the first 9 weeks was at 75 minutes per week. The second 9 weeks was to ratchet up to 150 minutes to parallel the 7th and 8th grade requirements. He has now adjusted this and the second 9 week practice time requirements for the 6th graders is 100 minutes per week. This only 20 minutes per day. He asks that all students be reminded that practice is an important part of the band program. Students should be practicing every week. Please ensure that your child is doing this homework requirement!
