Eighth Grade Band Night

This Friday, September 18th is Eighth Grade Band Night at the Wando football game. Eighth grade students will take the field with the Wando H.S. Marching Band. Students must attend rehearsal on Thursday, September 17th at Wando H.S. from 5-6 p.m. On Friday, call time is 6:00 p.m. at the old Wando. Student must wear their black Cario Band t-shirts and khaki shorts. Every 8th grade student will receive a new Cario Band t-shirt this week in time for Band Night. You may also need to purchase a lyre for your student so they can attach the music to their instrument.

Memorial Beach Sweep

In honor of our former Band Booster President, Nan Jenkins, we are going to participate in our annual beach sweep on Saturday, September 19th, at 9:00 am. Any band student/family can join in on the beach sweep. We will meet at Fort Moultrie Visitor’s Center on Sullivan's Island. Fort Moultrie and the Visitor’s Center are both located at 1214 Middle Street on Sullivan's Island and are accessible by car.
From Mount Pleasant & US 17
- From US 17 follow the signs for SC 703 and Sullivan's Island. (SC 703 is not the IOP connector. It’s the other road to the Islands.)
- Take SC 703 to Sullivan's Island. (Coleman Blvd. turns into SC 703 at the Royal Ace Hardware intersection and becomes Ben Sawyer Blvd.)
- Cross the Intracoastal Waterway at the Ben Sawyer Bridge.
- Continue straight on Ben Sawyer Boulevard to Middle Street.
- Turn right at the stop sign onto Middle Street.
- The Fort Moultrie Visitor Center and parking is 1.5 miles away on Middle Street.
The staff at Fort Moultrie wants all participants to bring the following items. Everyone should bring gloves, bug spray, shoes, water bottle and sunscreen. They will supply the bags. This is the first of four community service projects for this year. We hope to see you there!

SmartMusic

All band students will receive a subscription to SmartMusic this year through the Band Boosters. These subscriptions should arrive in the next 2-3 weeks and will be passed out at school in the form of a CD that you will need to load onto your home computer. If you do not have a computer at home, please contact president@cariobands.org. For those of you who had a SmartMusic subscription last year, please ignore the renewal notice SmartMusic may send you and wait for the CD to be given to your student at school.

Practice Time & Charts

Students are expected to practice at home 120 minutes each week. This is best accomplished by practicing 30 minutes per day, 4 days per week. Students should record practice time on practice charts each time they practice, and parents should sign the practice chart weekly. Practice charts are due on Friday. This constitutes the homework grade. (Cario Band Handbook, page 4) You can download the practice chart from our website.

Fundraising Update

The magazine fundraiser is in full swing! Please encourage your student to continue to sell the magazine subscriptions. This fundraiser benefits the entire band and is a great opportunity to get some early Christmas shopping done. You can also renew subscriptions you already enjoy. This fundraiser is ongoing until September 22nd. Students who turned in a family & friends postcard booklet will receive their hoodie key chains this week.

Uniform Update

Sixth Grade - All 6th grade students are required to purchase a black uniform pant from Stagecoach Clothing Store in the Piggly Wiggly/Target shopping center off the IOP connector. Please take your child during the month of September to be fitted and pay for the pants. This year girls will be offered a style in girls' and junior sizes. On Oct. 1, the store will place one order for the pants. Once they arrive, we will deliver both the polo and the pants to your child in class sometime in November. Money saving tip: Stagecoach accepts Greenbax! Deadline to order and pay for your pants is Sept. 30. If you already have the uniform pants, please tell your child so he or she can let us know if we ask.

Cario Band T-shirts

Every student in Cario Band will receive a new band t-shirt. Eighth graders will receive their shirts in time for Eighth Grade Band Night. Sixth & seventh graders will receive theirs at a later date.
