Announcements For The Week Of October 16, 2008
8th Grade Night
The 8th graders from Cario, along with the 8th graders from Laing and Moultrie, will be performing with the Wando marching band this Friday at the Wando football game. The schedule is as follows:
Thursday October 16, 2008- The 8th graders should report to the New Wando band room at 5:15. Mr. Rush will not allow any child to participate if they are wearing flip flops. Socks and tennis shoes are required. Also, the bugs have been really bad so students should consider bringing bug spray to the rehearsal and game. Practice will go until approximately 6:30. Parents are required to pick up their children promptly at the end of this practice.
Friday October 17, 2008- Call time for Friday evening is 6 pm at the Moultrie MS band room (old Wando). 8th graders should wear their black Cario t-shirt, blue jeans, socks, and tennis shoes. All of the other Cario band members are encouraged to come out and support the 8th graders and the Wando band. Parents - if you haven't already seen the Wando band perform, you are in for a treat. For those students who did not go to the Low Country Invitational, this is your opportunity to get a concert evaluation.
*****Attendance is Mandatory for both nights. This is considered a "Performance". Any absences will be considered unexcused and will be dealt with as outlined in the Band Handbook (page 7). Your child may leave the game after halftime Friday night however, they must checkout with Mr. Scott first.*****
Uniforms
Tuxedos and dresses for 7th and 8th grade band students have been distributed. Full payment is required in advance before students are allowed to take home the uniforms. Students should try on their uniforms immediately to determine whether exchanges are needed. The deadline for sending in uniforms for exchange is Monday, October 20. Contact Mary Dinda at 849-6801 or uniforms@cariobands.org to discuss size requirements.
We've arranged for a seamstress to provide hemming and alterations. Parents can contact Margo Gray directly to arrange for her services. The cost to hem the dress is $30 and the pants is $15. Contact Margo for other alteration costs. Her business is located in Park West and she can be reached at 884-0399. Payment is expected in advance and must be made directly to Ms. Gray. You may use the services of another seamstress, if you choose. Do not cut the garment length, so the hem can be let down in the future. Do not wait until the last minute!! Uniforms should be ready to wear by Oct. 30.
6th grade band students who needed to order black uniform pants from Stagecoach should have done so by now as the order has been placed. For the few who did not, you need to go to Stagecoach to discuss your situation with the manager.

Practice Charts
By now you should be signing practice charts on a weekly basis for your child. This is an important part of their grade. Mr. Scott requires that they be turned in weekly as opposed to sending them in for a few weeks at one time. If you have not been signing practice charts, this is a great time to talk with your child about the required home practices. The 6th grade students have been doing their music pass-offs in class. The 7th graders have been working on scales and should know 5 of the 7 scales as well as the chromatic scale. 8th graders are working on concert music as well as scales.
There are a few new instrument instructors available for private instruction that have been approved by Mr. Scott.
- Trumpet- Cameron Handel 478-5792 Thursdays at Wando
- Clarinet- Mara Lee Barela 568-4416
- Trombone- Steve Spaulding 442-8778
Attention 6th grade clarinets! After school help is available until 4:20pm on Monday 10/20 in the Cario Band room.
