All County Band Master Classes
All students who auditioned for All County are invited to participate in the All County Master Classes on Wednesday, January 6th. The classes are taught by faculty from the University of South Carolina and are designed to help students prepare for the upcoming All Region and All State auditions. It's a great opportunity for your student to take advantage of.
- Brass classes (trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba) except for french horns will be at Burke H.S. downtown from 5:30 - 6:30.
- Woodwinds classes (flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax) and french horns will be at Wando H.S. from 5:30 - 6:30.
- Percussion (mallets, snare, and timpani) will be at Wando H.S. from 5:30 - 6:30.
Region Auditions
Region Auditions are this Saturday, January 9, 2010. Audition times are posted in the bandroom and on the cariobands.org website. The auditions will be at Summerville H.S. Dress is Sunday best. No jeans, shorts, flip flops, tennis shoes or clothing that says Cario on it anywhere are allowed. Students who are auditioning for Region Band MUST purchase the original book containing their solo, they will be disqualified without it. It can be purchased at Music and Arts, Pecknel music and probably Mt. Pleasant Music. Call the stores first to make sure they have it in stock.
Summerville H.S. is at 1101 Boone Hill Road in Summerville. Take I-26 towards Columbia. Exit at 199-A (Alt 17) and continue approximately 3.5 miles through Summerville. Alt 17 is South Main Street through most of Summerville. It makes a hard right about 3.5 miles from I-26 and changes to Boone Hill Road. Summerville High is approximately 1.5 miles on the left.
Forms
If you have received a notice that your student's forms have not been submitted, please complete these as soon as possible. Students will not be eligible to attend any band trips including Florida, Carowinds, Region or All-State Clinic, or any other field trips unless all required forms are submitted. Parents can email either hospitality@cariobands.org (Chris Davis) or uniforms@cariobands.org (Mary Dinda) to confirm forms status. The most common forms that students have not submitted are the medical forms (2 parts, must be notarized) and the Statement of Responsibility (last page of the band handbook.) All forms can be found on the band website: www.cariobands.org/Forms .
Band Room Help
As the second semester is about to begin, additional help is needed in the bandroom to assist with ongoing tasks. If you are available to help on a regular basis on either Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays, please contact Sue Kidder at secretary@cariobands.org.
Florida Trip Payment
The 1st payment of $125 for the Florida Trip is due on January 13th. Payments may be deposited in the lockbox in Mr. Scott's office or mailed to Cario Band Boosters, 1121-B Park West Blvd., Box 224, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466. Please be sure to include on the memo line of your check your student's name and the purpose of the check. If you are sending in cash, please put it in an envelope marked with the student's name and purpose of the payment. Please remember that students must have ALL their required forms submitted in order to participate in the Florida Trip.
